Electronic Nose

An electronic nose is a compact instrument that tries to replicate the way humans smell by pairing many tiny chemical detectors with computer programs that learn how different scent patterns look. Each sensor in the array responds to certain molecules in the air, and when an odor reaches the device the collective response forms a fingerprint. The pattern‑recognition software compares this fingerprint against a stored library, allowing the instrument to tell one smell from another without a human sniffing.
